Christo Nikolov

Researcher

Christo is a member of the Upgrade of the Centre of Excellence LignoSilva project team and contributes to Deliverable D5.9 – the WoodPests web platform. Within the project, he collaborates on the development and content of the platform.

He studied Ecology and Environmental Sciences at the Technical University in Zvolen and completed his PhD at the Faculty of Forestry. In 2018, he obtained the scientific qualification level IIa.

Christo has undertaken several international research stays, including at the Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute in Norway, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies in Germany, the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology in Argentina. He also participated in short-term training and workshops in Canada, Greece, and Spain.

He is actively involved in international scientific networks. He currently serves on the Management Committee of COST Action CA22129 (InsectAI) and, since 2016, has been a member of the FAO network Forest Invasive Species in Europe and Central Asia Region.

His expertise includes the use of GIS and analytical tools in forest protection. He has experience in international collaboration and has coordinated several projects.

Since January 2024, Christo has been part of the LignoSilva Centre of Excellence team, where he focuses on developing online tools for pest monitoring and supporting innovative approaches to forest protection.
