Juraj Galko

Researcher

Dr. Juraj Galko, is a senior scientific and researcher at the National Forest Centre in Zvolen, specializing in the field of forest protection. Employed since 2008, his work integrates scientific research with practical application. He is an active member of the Forest Protection Service (LOS), where he serves as a forest protection inspector for the Trnava and Trenčín regions. In this capacity, he provides crucial advisory and expert services to forest owners and managers, having authored more than 100 expertise documents and recommendations for forestry practice over the last five years.

Dr. Galko completed his entire university education at the Technical University in Zvolen, earning a Master’s degree (Ing.) in Forestry in 2005 and a PhD in Forest Protection in 2008.

His professional activities are centered around leading and participating in national and international research projects. He is responsible for leading research teams, designing and conducting field experiments, and communicating with international research institutions. Since 2009, he has been a co-author of the annual reports on the occurrence of harmful agents and forest health, now published as the journal APOL. A key part of his work is the dissemination of results; he manages and edits the ‘LOS Banská Štiavnica’ YouTube channel, which hosts over 190 videos for the professional forestry community.

Dr. Galko is also an accomplished innovator. He is the author of two utility models for pheromone traps designed for bark- and wood-destroying insects (No. 71690 and 7170). Furthermore, he is the co-author of an invention for a “Biological agent for plant protection,” for which a European patent application (EPA20764176.2) has been accepted, attracting significant interest from the private sector for future licensing.

With over 20 years of experience in forest protection, he has authored or co-authored more than 100 professional publications and several dozen articles in journals indexed in the Current Contents database.
