Ondrej Vacek

Researcher

Ondrej is a researcher for the Upgrade of the Centre of Excellence LignoSilva project. He focuses on implementing artificial intelligence models to evaluate  CT scans of wood.

He studied at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics at Comenius University in Bratislava, completing his degree in 2002. In 2008, he obtained a PhD. in applied mathematics from the same institution. Since 2002, he has been working at the Technical University in Zvolen, in the Department of Mathematics and Descriptive Geometry, and later also at the National Forest Centre in Zvolen.

Ondrej has participated in numerous research projects, including APVV, VEGA and  KEGA grants, andprojects funded by EU structural funds. He is the author and co-author of scientific papers in the fields of mathematical graph theory, wood science and most recently in the applications of artificial intelligence.

Since January 2023, Ondrej has been part of the LignoSilva Centre of Excellence team. His main responsibilities include developing models for the automatic detection of wood defects, programming supporting applications and scripts, and data management and analysis.
